The Founding Story

In the name of Allah the beneficent the merciful.

Our centre was founded in the late 90’s, our community was established with a simple yet enduring vision: to create a welcoming home for Shi’ite Muslims in South Africa from all backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities and across the African boarder.

At a time of social change and renewed hope, we sought to foster unity, faith, and mutual respect—grounded in Islamic values and strengthened by diversity. Our community has always been a space where worship, learning, service, and brotherhood come together, open to all who share in the spirit of Islam and the pursuit of a connected, compassionate Ummah.

ICFA Mission

Our mission at the Islamic Centre for Africa – ICFA is to uphold the teachings of Islam and follow the message of Prophet Muhammad and the Ahlul-Bayt – The Purified Family (peace be upon them all).

We hold regular congregational prayers, Jumu‘ah and Eid prayers, and observe all religious occasions, including majalis and anniversaries of the 14 Infallible’s and their noble companions.

We initiated a youth programme that’s designated to the upcoming generation to organise and execute, and we warmly welcome all and new members to join us in continuing the mission of Prophet Muhammad and his Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them both)

Friday Prayers

Our mosque welcomes everyone to join us every Friday for salat jummah prayers.
